Remote access to UC from off-campus

If you need to connect to UC services when you're off campus using your personal computer or a laptop provided by UC, you'll need remote access. Find out about remote access to UC from off-campus.

HOW TO APPLY

This page provides instructions on how to connect to UC services from off-campus:

  1. Using your own Windows computer
  2. Using a Mac (either personal or UC computer)
  3. Using a UC laptop

To use UC services or resources from off-campus for example at home or a hotel, you need to setup for Remote Access. To learn more about how to set this up, click on the registration button below.

1. Using your own Windows computer

This outlines how to set up your personal computer (laptop or desktop - tablets and iPads are not supported) to access your on-campus desktop.

How to Connect to your UC Desktop

On the computer you wish to use (eg your personal computer):

a. Open your preferred browser, and go to

b. Enter your UCusernameandpassword(eg abc123) and clickLogon

c. You will receive a text message (to the mobile phone you nominated in the setup process) with a code.Enter this code when you receive it into the TxtCode field.

d. Once you log in, you will see a window similar to the one below. Click onthe icon that has your desktop computer name (usually it will be called "My Desktop 1"). This will launch your desktop.

e. Enter your usernameand password (username should be automatically entered already).

2. Using a Mac (either personal or UC computer)

This section explains how to connect your UC issued Macoryour personal Mac to UC to access IT services and resources from off-campus.

On the computer you wish to use (eg your personal computer):

a. Open your preferred browser, and go to

How to Access a Mac Located on Campus

If you need to connect to another Mac located on campus, please call the IT Service Desk and they will take you through the setup process.

How to Connect to a Windows Computer on Campus

If you need to connect to a Windows computer located on Campus you need to:

  • Contact the IT Service Desk and request FULL VPN access (don't worry, they will know what this means).
  • Find outthe name of the computer you want to connect to.

Once the above is done, you need to:

a. Install Microsoft Remote Desktop. You can get this from the Apple Store or the UC Software Center.

b. Run Microsoft Remote Desktop and enter the computer name and your UC username and password.

3. Using a UC laptop

UC Laptops are able to access mostUC services without any additional configuration - just connect to your WIFI - with some exceptions eg Jade and TimeTabling (syllabus plus).

Even though it is not required, we still recommended that you setup Remote Access in case it is needed later.

How to recognise a UC laptop

All UC laptops have a sticker on the lid that looks like the image below. The text starting withLis the computers name (this can also be referred to as the 'Asset Tag').

What IT services are available

If you have a UC laptop, you can connect to any WIFI network and work as you would if you were in the office with the following exceptions:

  • UC SMS (Jade)
  • TimeTabling (Syllabus Plus)

If you need access to either (or both) of these systems, please contact theIT Service Desk.

Access to the UC SMS (Jade)

Jade is not automatically enabled for off-site access. If you need to access Jade from home, please contact theIT Service Desk.

Accessing Timetabling (SyllabusPlus)

The TimeTabling application isnot enabled for off-site access.If you need to access this application from off-campus, please contact theIT Service Desk.
