Translation and Interpreting

Introduction

Translation and Interpreting studies at UC prepares you to work as a language translator (working with written text) or language interpreter (working with spoken communications in real time).

UC offers several degrees ranging from introductory training in translating and interpreting through to advanced PhD research level.

Translation and Interpreting

What will my study involve?

  • Courses in both translation and interpreting to build your language proficiency, as well as a range of elective topics, including dubbing and subtitling, public service interpreting, digital and AI translation tools, and more.
  • Opportunity to study abroad with a partner university as part of your degree.
  • Complete either a research project or an internship within a community, not-for-profit, or T&I agency.
  • Learn from UCs particular expertise in crisis communications, literary translation and translingualism, simultaneous interpreting, and bilingualism.

Courses

You can study translation and interpreting for Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, or Te Reo Mori. Other languages may be available with approved supervision.

All of UCs Translation and Interpreting degrees are endorsed by the , making you eligible to sit NAATI exams following graduation.
