UC's new Creative Music Technology major caters to students who want to do exactly that: create music using a variety of digital and studio-based music technologies. Students will study foundation principles of acoustics, studio technology, and the latest trends and techniques in digital music making, and learn how to apply these in a creative context. The major includes courses in electronic music composition, studio production, audio for games, creative coding, and much more.
As with the Composition major, all styles and genres of music are welcome; whether you are an aspiring composer of electronic music, a beatmaker, bedroom producer, sound designer, sound artist, or anyone interested in digital music making, Creative Music Technology is the place for you. With the School of Music's flexible new degree structure, students can combine studies in Creative Music Technology with another discipline. Aspiring film composers might pursue a double major in Creative Music Technology and Composition. Self-producing song writers could major in both Contemporary Performance and CMT.
