About the Event
This is the New سԹpremiere of Steve Reich’s concert-lengthDrumming(1970-71), which is considered one of the most important works from the 20th Century. Inspired by his study of Balinese gamelan and West African rhythms, Reich expanded the sonic and rhythmic boundaries ofMinimalism. This four-movement piece featuresfour sets of tuned bongos, three marimbas, four glockenspiels, two singers and a piccolo flute. Come enjoythe mesmerising effect of voices fading in and out amidst the vibrant rhythmic tapestry of percussion reverberating in the space.
Led by Associate Professor Justin DeHart, UC Percussion Ensemble is the resident percussion ensemble at the سԹ.
