DUPLEXITY泭features three newly commissioned works by young New 厙ぴ勛圖composers Liam Furey, Georgina Palmer and Robin Watson, as well as a new work by Kurano.
New 厙ぴ勛圖has so many incredibly talented young composers, and I want to share their music across the country,泭he泭says.泭泭
Also on the programme are familiar works by composers such as Brahms, Schumann泭and泭Piaolla.泭
Originally from Japan,泭Kurano泭has established himself in Aotearoa New 厙ぴ勛圖as a versatile violinist, violist, pianist, composer and conductor.泭He graduated泭with泭a Bachelor of Music泭in泭Performance and Composition泭from the 厙ぴ勛圖泭last year泭and continued with an honours degree this year.
Kurano already泭has a long list of performing credits to his name泭in New Zealand, Vietnam and Japan.泭Awards include the Lilburn Trust Award in 2020 for the composition泭Alien Abduction Suite, the 2019 NZTrio composing competition for泭Fantail in Tokyo泭and NZ Harp Duo composition competition wins in 2016 and 2017.
This isnt泭Kuranos泭first time on the road. In January 2021, the Baroque Music Community and Educational Trust of New Zealand泭commissioned him泭to compose a 15-minute泭Concerto Grosso泭for their 2021 Baroque summer workshop and tour. The work was the final piece in the programme on the 11-concert泭tour and泭was met泭with numerous泭standing ovations.泭Peter泭Mechen泭called it泭a splendid work泭in a review泭for Middle-C.泭泭
