About the Event
The exhibition “Berlin Wall Stories” explores the perspectives of ten unique people and their relationship with the Berlin Wall – a concrete wall that once divided East and West Berlin – and the border strip that ran between the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR). After the Wall fell in 1989, Germany was finally reunited into the country we know today. It was a historical event of great significance, and not only for the German people.
In this exhibition you will meet ten very different people who call Aotearoa their home. They hail from New Zealand, Germany, or Eastern Europe, and some have identities rooted in both parts of the world. But what they all have in common is their own “Mauergeschichte” – a Berlin Wall Story. Delving into these stories, you will see the different perspectives of the same historical event and learn about Germany’s not-so-distant past.
The penal discussion features academics from the Faculty of Arts as well as guests who contributed to the exhibition.
Join us for this interesting event and feel free to bring your own Mauergeschichte!
