Working thesis title:
Weddell seal stress responses to an Antarctic construction project.

Supervisors:
Primary Supervisor: Dr. Michelle LaRue,

Co-supervisors: Dr Mia Wege, Dr Robyn Hetem

Research:

My current research involves investigating the impacts of rebuilding Aotearoa New Zealand's Antarctic research station -Scott Base. This redevelopment project will be a significant disturbance to the Weddell seal population that lives adjacent to the station. I am investigating the types of stress responses observed in Weddell seals, such as stress hormone elevation, behavioural change, or demographic shifts. This research will allow for better-managed Antarctic construction projects, as well as the improved monitoring of Weddell seal populations.

Research Interests:

Population ecology

Environmental management

Marine mammals

Antarctic ecosystems

Academic History:

Bachelor of Science in Zoology at The University of St Andrews, Scotland
Masters in Antarctic studies at The سԹ, NZ
