Thesis:

‘Youth-led Political Socialisation for Relational Climate Justice: Understanding Young People’s Experiences of the School Strike 4 Climate NZ Movement in Aotearoa New Zealand’

This thesis examines how young climate activists think about climate justice and understand their own political socialisation through participation in the School Strike 4 Climate movement in Aotearoa New Zealand. It draws on semi-structured interviews and focus groups with 26 young activists, as well as documents including public submissions, social media posts, and news media reports. The thesis argues that their participation exemplifies a situated socio-cultural learning process with significant affective dimensions, suggesting that a relational approach to understanding climate justice and political socialisation is taking place through their participation in the strikes.
