What is a Model EU event?

The European Union is an economic and political grouping of 27 Member States. The event will simulate discussions taking place at the Council of the European Union, where elected ministers from the member countries meet to discuss, amend, and adopt EU polices and legislation. Students assume the role ofa minister of an EU Member State.

They will be encouraged towork with members from their own country and those with similar interests to form a position on the various issues and to ultimately try to find the best outcome to dealing with the designated topic. Debate takes place in Committee sessions over two days and culminates in a Plenary Session at the end of the second day when delegates attempt to adopt a newdirective.

Why attend a Model EU event?

This event is open to all New سԹHigh School students, regardless of ability and experience. The Model EU simulation events provide students with practical, hands-on experience, they will gain confidence in public speaking, working in a team, and diplomatic skills. Participants are introduced to the EU, its governance and the event subject through interactive and self-directed learning. Themes are relevant to young people and relate to current developments in the EU.

Students are mentored and encouraged along the way through assistants who are studying the European Union at the سԹ.

Teacher workshop

Alongside the event for student delegates, teachers are invited to join a one-day teacher workshop, facilitated by the Aotearoa Social Studies Educators’ Network (ASSEN).
